Renowned journalist and former Special Officer of Buddhavanam, Mallepalli Laxmaiah, was honored at the International Buddhist Conclave 2025, held on February 24 and 25 at the Dr. Ambedkar International Convention Center in Nagpur.

In recognition of his pivotal role in the development of Buddhavanam, a 273-acre Buddhist heritage site near Nagarjuna Sagar, he was felicitated with a shawl, bouquet, citation, and a special honor for his contributions to Buddhist heritage and tourism. The award was presented by Bhante Mokkhachara (Indonesia) and Aman Kamble, acknowledging his efforts in preserving and promoting Buddhism in India.

In his address, Laxmaiah stated, “There is nothing in our history except Buddha.” He emphasized that human development is not just about food, clothing, and shelter but also about living with dignity, harmony with nature, and fearlessness. He stressed the need for the Government of India to establish a National Buddhist Heritage Forum to protect and promote Buddhist sites across the country. He urged the people of Nagpur, the city of Deekshabhoomi, to pressure the government, reminding them that Dr. B R Ambedkar’s historic Dhamma Deeksha took place here, where over 5 lakh people embraced Buddhism.

The two-day conclave, organized by the Nagpur Buddhist Association, focused on Buddhist tourism, culture, art, and literature. It featured prominent speakers such as Bhikkhuni Ayya Cittā (Australia), Bhikkhuni Shakyā Dhammadinā, and IRS Anil Ramteke, who shared insights on Buddhist teachings and career development. Scholars Motilal Alamchand (Bhopal) and Satyajit Maurya spoke on Buddhist historical tourism.

The event also honored individuals with ‘Constitution Mitra’ and ‘Dhammadoot’ awards for their contributions to Buddhist activism and constitutional values. With monks, scholars, and activists from around the world in attendance, Laxmaiah’s call for a National Buddhist Heritage Forum marked a significant step in India’s Buddhist revival. The conclave concluded with a pledge to strengthen Buddhist tourism and cultural preservation.
