Mahavir Jayanti was celebrated with great enthusiasm and cultural splendor in Hyderabad, marking the 2625th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Mahavir. The grand festivities were organized by the Sri Jain Seva Sangh.
A massive Shobha Yatra (procession), blending devotion with cultural vibrancy, commenced from the Jain Temple at Begum Bazaar and concluded at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds. The procession featured a chariot of Bhagwan Mahavir, thematic tableaux, traditional attire, musical bands, horse-drawn buggies, and active participation from women and youth, including a scooter rally.
State Minister for Minority Welfare, Mohammed Azharuddin, inaugurated the celebrations by garlanding a portrait of Bhagwan Mahavir and lighting a ceremonial lamp. He emphasized that Mahavir’s teachings—non-violence, truth, and self-restraint—serve as a universal ideal. Highlighting Hyderabad’s legacy of “Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb,” he described the city as a symbol of religious harmony and unity.
Speaking at the event, T. Harish Rao, Deputy Floor Leader of the BRS Legislature Party, noted that the principle “Ahimsa Paramo Dharma” is a way of life, especially relevant in times of increasing social discord. He added that Telangana has historically been a center for Jain and Buddhist traditions and praised the Jain community’s contributions to social service.
Former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav urged citizens to follow the path of righteousness as taught by Bhagwan Mahavir. Hukmichandji Sawla remarked that Mahavir’s teachings transcend religious boundaries and hold universal relevance.
The event also featured devotional music performances and saw participation from several dignitaries, community leaders, and members of the Jain community, reflecting a spirit of unity, devotion, and cultural pride.
