Taking disciplinary action, the Circle Inspector (CI) of Macherla Town in Palnadu district, Turaka Venkataramana, has been suspended following serious allegations of negligence and misconduct in the investigation of the sensational Chowdeshwari honour killing case.
According to official sources, Palnadu District Superintendent of Police Krishnarao ordered the suspension after preliminary findings indicated that the officer had failed to handle the case with due diligence and allegedly attempted to mislead the investigation.
The case pertains to the murder of 21-year-old Kamanaboyina Chowdeshwari, who was allegedly killed by her own father on March 18 for entering into an inter-caste marriage. The incident had triggered widespread outrage, with questions being raised over the initial handling of the case by local police. From the outset, suspicions were raised regarding the CI’s role, particularly over allegations that the murder was initially projected as a suicide. Critics alleged that this attempt to misclassify the case delayed justice and weakened the investigation. Further allegations have also surfaced claiming that the officer had earlier traced the victim but subsequently handed her over to her father after allegedly accepting money. While these claims are yet to be officially confirmed, they formed part of the grounds for initiating an internal inquiry.
Following the probe, senior police officials found sufficient basis to take action, leading to the suspension of the CI. Officials indicated that further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of lapses and accountability in the case.
