Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and IT, Nara Lokesh, has strongly criticized the previous YSRCP government over the state of the public education system, citing the findings of the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER). Taking to Twitter (X), Lokesh stated that the report has exposed the severe decline in education standards.
The report outlines several concerning trends, including the closure of government schools, a decline in student attendance, and the absence of basic infrastructure such as drinking water and functional toilets. Additionally, it reveals that nearly half of the eighth-grade students are unable to read second-grade textbooks properly, demonstrating the extent of the learning crisis in the state.
Listing the initiatives taken so far, Lokesh highlighted efforts to accurately account for the number of students enrolled in government schools, update curricula to meet modern educational needs, introduce value-based learning, and provide students with opportunities in sports and other fields. He also mentioned that resolving issues faced by teachers remains a priority for his administration.
