Rajya Sabha BJP MP Dr. K. Laxman on Tuesday called for greater public participation in the fight against malnutrition, saying that building a healthy nation begins with ensuring the health and fitness of every child.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the five-day Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) on POSHAN MAAH - 2026, organised by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, at AV College Grounds, Gagan Mahal. POSHAN MAAH is a nationwide annual nutrition month observed every September. Describing the nutrition exhibition as informative and thought-provoking, Dr. Laxman urged the students and youth to become volunteers and take awareness messages on proper nutrition to families and disadvantaged communities. He stressed the need to address anaemia, underweight, overweight, obesity and growth-related problems.

Highlighting the reach of government nutrition initiatives, he referred to digital monitoring of nearly 14 lakh Anganwadi centres covering around nine crore children, besides hot cooked meals being provided to nearly 12 crore children through more than 11 lakh schools. Further, the BJP MP said the proportion of children experiencing growth-related setbacks in Telangana had declined from 33 percent to 27 percent, attributing the improvement to the efforts of Anganwadi and frontline workers and government support.
