The Andhra Pradesh Government was successful in seizing 1 lakh kg of ganja and cleared thousands of acres of cannabis cultivation at Andhra-Odisha border in nine months, informed Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha on Saturday at the ‘Passing Out Parade” of Sub-Inspectors(SI) in Anantapur on Saturday.
The Home Minister felicitated the SIs with medals, certificate and Chief Minister's pistol. She presented the trophy to the winners of civil department firing performances. She mentioned that candidates with qualifications like BTech, MTech, BCom, BPharmacy were an added strength to the police department. She said that she considered every policeman as her sibling and family member.
Reiterating that the government pays special attention to the welfare of the police department, she said that 1 lakh CC TV cameras will be installed across the state and 2 drones will be made available for each police station.
She said that during the tenure of YSRCP government, Rs 900 crores has been owed to the police department and the present government is clearing the dues. Admitting that there was no Police Academy or Grey Hounds Battalion for the state till now, she said the “Bhoomi Puja” for Police Academy will be done soon. She gave an example of how the accused was convicted within 100 days in the POCSO case registered in Vizianagaram district and was even given death sentence.
Home Minister Anitha also hit out at former YSRCP MP Gorantla Madhav who commented that “internal war” was going in the NDA coalition in the state. She said that everything is being done only as per the law and that nobody who has done any illegal activity will be spared.
