Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday launched a sharp counterattack on BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao, describing his open letter to the Chief Minister as “a bundle of lies, half-truths and desperate political propaganda.” Presenting official figures as of May 20, 2026, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the government has already procured 46.21 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of paddy out of 54.29 LMT arrived at 8,575 Paddy Procurement Centers, achieving nearly 85% procurement.

Minister Uttam compared current figures with previous Rabi seasons under the BRS regime. While Rabi 2021-22 saw procurement of 25.94 LMT with Rs 2,624 crore in MSP payments and Rabi 2022-23 recorded 34.91 LMT with Rs 3,009 crore, the ongoing season has already surpassed both in volume and payments. Arrivals have crossed 54.29 LMT, procurement stands at 46.21 LMT, and payments released to farmers have reached Rs 7,841.01 crores.

The Minister termed the allegation that “no procurement took place for nearly two months” as baseless. Operations are continuing vigorously through a network of 8,575 Paddy Procurement Centres (PPCs) across the state, with daily monitoring of procurement, transportation, milling, and payments. On transportation concerns, Reddy pointed out that 43.29 LMT have been shifted to rice mills and 0.71 LMT to godowns. On average, over 13,000 vehicles are deployed daily, shifting approximately 2.3 LMT of paddy every day. He also rejected claims of gunny bag shortages, stating that 19.78 crore bags have already been positioned, sufficient for the entire arrived stock.

The Minister highlighted continuous high-level monitoring by the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, District Collectors, and himself, along with regular visits by Ministers and MLAs to procurement centers. He also noted special measures for transportation, labor shortages, and weather challenges. “Isolated challenges may occur in an exercise of this unprecedented scale, but portraying the entire system as collapsed is inaccurate and politically motivated,” minister Uttam said.
