KTPP employees continue protest, demand halt to privatization

Employees of the Kakatiya Thermal Power Project (KTPP) continued their agitation against the proposed privatization of coal handling operations at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS), staging a protest for the 22nd consecutive day despite heavy rainfall. The demonstration was organized under the banner of the Telangana Power Employees Joint Action Committee (TGPEJAC), with employees wearing black badges and gathering at the main entrance of the power station.

The protesters reiterated their demand that the government immediately cancel the proposed privatization of the coal handling departments and stop the ongoing tender process. They said the agitation has remained peaceful throughout the past 22 days and is aimed at protecting public sector institutions and safeguarding employees' rights.

Addressing the gathering, union leaders strongly opposed the government's move to privatize public sector enterprises. They urged the authorities to withdraw the decision without delay, arguing that such measures would weaken public institutions and affect the interests of workers. The leaders warned that if their demands are ignored, the agitation would be intensified across Telangana. They also announced that several employee unions would jointly organize more protest programs in the coming days to press for the withdrawal of the privatization proposal.
