10.9 kgs ganja seized on Nagavalli Express in Kamareddy

Excise officials at Kamareddy railway station seized 10.9 kg of dry ganja worth about Rs 5.80 lakh from the Nagavalli Express on Tuesday, based on credible information, officials said. The train, operating from Sambalpur to Pune, was checked following inputs that contraband was being transported through it.

Officials found two persons moving suspiciously inside the train and detained them for questioning. During inspection, the officials recovered the contraband allegedly being transported illegally from Rayagada in Odisha to Nanded.

The accused were identified as Ashok Kumar Mishra of Mamidipally village in Armur mandal of Nizamabad district and Ganesh Pandit of Maharashtra. Both accused were taken into custody and later sent to judicial remand. Excise officials said further investigation is underway. Joint teams of Excise, Railway Protection Force (RPF) and railway staff participated in the operation.
