Dr. J. Purnachandra Rao, former DGP and National Coordinator of AIBSP, said on Friday that Jyothirao Phule’s vision of social justice and empowerment of the oppressed majority remains unfulfilled even today. He was speaking at the 199th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule observed at Ravindra Bharathi under the aegis of the Telangana Citizens Council (TCC).
The event was attended by V. Hanumantha Rao, former PCC President and Ex-MP; S. Madhusudana Chary, MLC and former Speaker of Telangana Assembly; B. Balraj Goud, Chairman of BC Political Front and Dr. M. Rajanarayan Mudiraj, TCC President. The “Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Excellence Award–2026” was conferred on T. Chiranjeevulu, Retd. IAS officer, for his contributions to public service. Addressing the gathering, Dr. J. Purnachandra Rao called for proportionate political representation, caste census and leadership development among marginalized communities.
Emphasizing that Phule stood for power-sharing and not charity, Dr. Rao called for social and political mobilization of Bahujans. He concluded that true tribute to Phule lies in correcting injustice. The meeting ended with a resolve to work towards a more inclusive and representative democracy.
