Junior doctors call off strike, resume duties in andhra pradesh

The ongoing strike by junior doctors in Andhra Pradesh has come to an end, with representatives of the Junior Doctors’ Association (JUDA) informing the High Court that they were withdrawing their protest and would return to duty.

The development came during the High Court’s hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed over the junior doctors’ strike. Appearing before the court, JUDA representatives formally stated that they were ending the strike while requesting the court to ensure that the government addresses their legitimate demands.

The High Court responded positively to the concerns raised by the junior doctors and directed the state government to take an appropriate decision on their demands within two weeks.

The doctors had been pressing the government on issues including their stipend and other service-related concerns. The dispute had raised concerns over the functioning of government hospitals, where junior doctors play a crucial role in patient care, particularly in teaching and district hospitals.

With the court’s intervention providing a framework for further negotiations, the doctors agreed to resume their duties rather than continue the agitation.

The withdrawal of the strike is expected to bring relief to patients and restore normal medical services across government hospitals in the state. The government will now have two weeks to examine the issues raised by JUDA and communicate its decision.
