JSP MP seeks 13 more JNVs, second AIIMS for AP

Jana Sena Party Rajya Sabha MP Lingamaneni Ramesh has urged the Union government to support the expansion of educational and healthcare infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh, seeking financial assistance for 13 new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) and a second AIIMS in the state. Ramesh met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and submitted a representation outlining the state’s requirements. Speaking to the media later, he said Andhra Pradesh currently has 28 districts but JNVs are available in only 15 of them, leaving 13 districts without access to the institutions.

He highlighted the role of JNVs in providing quality, free residential education to meritorious students, particularly those from economically disadvantaged rural backgrounds. Referring to the Union Cabinet’s approval for establishing 28 new JNVs across the country at an estimated cost of Rs.2,359.82 crore over five years, he requested around Rs.1,096 crore to establish JNVs in the remaining 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The MP also sought central support for establishing a second AIIMS in the state. While AIIMS Mangalagiri was established following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, Ramesh argued that another premier medical institution is needed to expand access to super-speciality healthcare, medical education and research. He requested the Centre to provide initial budgetary support for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR), followed by the required capital funding for construction.

Ramesh said both initiatives would contribute to the objectives of Viksit Bharat @2047 and the National Education Policy 2020, and expressed confidence that the Union government would consider the proposals favourably.
