IPS officer Sunil Kumar suspended by AP government

IPS officer PV Sunil Kumar, who is in the rank of DGP, has been suspended by the AP government. Chief Secretary Vijayanand has issued orders to this effect. He has been accused of making several foreign trips without prior permission. As per a Government Order released on Sunday, PV Sunil Kumar had visited United Arab Emirates, Sweden, USA and UK without prior approval in 2019-24 period.

Earlier, the government had set up an inquiry committee headed by R P Sisodia, special secretary in the revenue department, to look into allegations that Sunil Kumar had violated all-India service rules. The government has decided to suspend Sunil Kumar after prima facie evidence was established. .Sunil has also been charged with acting against the All India Service Employees Code of Conduct. As per the government, “His actions exhibit gross negligence, indiscipline, and grave misconduct by undertaking foreign travel without obtaining requisite permission, thereby violating applicable rules and regulations.”

Apart from this case, there have been several allegations against Sunil Kumar in the past as well. It was during his tenure as Director General that he was accused of using a third degree against the then Narasapuram MP and current AP Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishnam Raju. This was also confirmed by the Secunderabad Army Hospital. Similarly, the arrest of Telugu Desam Party activists and the use of third degree against them became a hot topic of discussion at that time.
