In a major crackdown on the illegal seed trade, the SOT LB Nagar team, along with officials from the Agriculture Department and Hayathnagar Police, busted an interstate racket involved in the transportation and sale of fake BT-3 cotton seeds in Pedda Amberpet. Four persons were arrested during the operation.
Police seized around 600 kilograms of banned and spurious cotton seeds, two vehicles used for transportation, and several mobile phones from the accused. Preliminary investigation revealed that the group was supplying fake seeds to farmers in different areas, risking heavy losses to crops and agricultural production.
Officials said the accused were illegally selling unapproved BT-3 cotton seeds in violation of agricultural regulations. The Agriculture Department urged farmers to purchase seeds only from authorized dealers and remain alert against fake products in the market.
Farmers were also asked to report any suspicious sale or transportation of spurious seeds to the police or agriculture authorities immediately.
