Hyderabad: KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, has performed India’s first Smart Cochlear Implant surgery on a three-year-old with severe hearing loss. Unlike conventional implants, the smart device allows future internal firmware upgrades, enabling improved hearing technology without additional surgery.

The child, with over 70% hearing loss, benefited from this advanced procedure, which is complemented by a comprehensive rehabilitation program including audiological evaluation, device programming, and speech therapy.

The surgery was led by Dr. Janardhan Rao Jagini, Head of ENT, with Dr. Shivaprasad Boddupalli and Dr. Divya on the team. Experts note that early implantation significantly boosts speech and language development, ensuring long-term benefits. KIMS continues to set new standards in cochlear implant care in India.
