The temple town of Tirupati has now an added distinction in the form of a green hydrogen blending plant marking a breakthrough in industrial decarbonisation, as it blends green hydrogen with LPG and PNG for industrial applications. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu virtually inaugurated the plant on Monday. The project, launched by Hero Future Energies (HFE) and Rockman Industries.

The plant has been established with an investment of Rs.1,000 crore and is expected to generate 2,000 jobs, boosting employment opportunities in Tirupati and surrounding regions. The facility has an annual production capacity of 25 tonnes of green hydrogen, with plans to expand it to 54 tonnes. This initiative will lead to a reduction of 206 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, while releasing 190-195 tonnes of oxygen into the atmosphere, achieving an estimated 8-10% emissions reduction.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu hailed the project as a game-changer for sustainable energy, setting a new benchmark for India’s clean energy transition. He emphasized that the scalable model of this plant can be replicated across industries such as glass, steel, petrochemicals, and chemicals, allowing them to adopt hydrogen-based solutions without extensive infrastructure modifications. Under the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024, the state targets 160 GW of renewable energy capacity and plans to attract Rs.10 trillion (~$118.95 billion) in investments over the next five years.

“Andhra Pradesh is committed to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, cutting crude oil imports, and supporting India’s net-zero emissions target by 2070,” Naidu said. “With our strategic coastal advantages, deep-sea ports, strong logistics network, and industry-friendly policies, the state is poised to become a hub for green hydrogen exports, catering to both domestic and international markets.”

Founded in 2012, Hero Future Energies (HFE) is a key player in the renewable energy sector, specializing in wind, solar, and hybrid energy. The company operates 1.9 GW of renewable energy projects across India, the UK, Ukraine, Vietnam, and Bangladesh, with a vision to expand capacity to 30 GW by 2030, backed by an estimated $20 billion investment.

Rockman Industries, a Hero Group subsidiary, is a leading manufacturer of aluminum die-casting components and carbon-based automotive parts. Established in 1960, it operates manufacturing plants in Ludhiana, Haridwar, Chennai, Bawal, Surat, Vadodara, and Tirupati, generating annual revenue of Rs.2,390 crore. The company has recently expanded into aerospace and high-end automotive sectors, reinforcing its commitment to advanced manufacturing.
