Come 2025, the Hyderabad City Police will be deploying drones for traffic management and an exclusive Drones Maintenance Wing (DMW) is being established for the purpose said Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C V Anand here on Sunday.
Commissioner of Police C V Anand said that their main focus should be on crime detection and maintaining the law and order in the city in the coming year. Commissioner said they will repair the defunct CCTV cameras in the city and install the new CCTV cameras, wherever necessary to keep the city under surveillance.
The Hyderabad metropolitan area is estimated to have a population of 10,901,000 in 2024. Hyderabad has been growing steadily for a few years. In 2023, the population was around 10.8 million, and in 2022 it was around 10.5 million.
In 2019, the city had around 54 lakh registered vehicles, which increased to 80.43 lakh in April 2024. In 2023 alone, a total of 16,150 new vehicles were added to Hyderabad.
“With Hyderabad’s vehicle population now exceeding 8.8 million, traffic violations remain a pressing issue. Initiatives like ‘Operation Rope’ helped remove 200 footpath encroachments, easing congestion. However, road accidents and life-endangering violations remain critical challenges. Enhanced monitoring, public education campaigns and AI-driven traffic systems have been prioritised for 2025,” said the commissioner.
