In a pioneering move to modernize sewerage maintenance, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has successfully trialed robotic technology for de-silting operations in the Old city area. Managing Director Ashok Reddy, accompanied by HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath and Joint Managing Director Mayank Mittal, personally inspected the on-site demonstration on Saturday.
The trial focused on clearing a blockage in the sewer line stretching from Mallampally X Road to VNC X Road in the Vijayanagar Colony section under O&M Division-3. Officials deployed advanced robotic equipment to address the choke point efficiently, ensuring uninterrupted flow of sewage and minimizing disruptions in the locality.
The agency team demonstrated how the technology accelerates blockage removal compared to traditional manual methods. Key highlights of the robotic system include Self-detecting robotic units capable of cleaning both vertical manholes and horizontal pipelines, AI-powered predictive and preventive features that anticipate blockages before they occur, enabling proactive interventions, Integration with real-time dashboards for city-wide monitoring, tracking, and planning of sanitation activities, seamlessly connecting with existing systems.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts by HMWS&SB to adopt smart, AI-driven solutions for urban sanitation, reducing reliance on manual labor, enhancing efficiency, and improving hygiene in densely populated areas.
