On the second day of the Water Board’s "Motor-Free Top Drive" in Hyderabad, authorities seized 32 illegal water motors and imposed penalties on 38 consumers for unauthorized water extraction. The drive, aimed at curbing low water pressure issues caused by illegal motor usage, is being closely monitored by HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy.

During field inspections in SR Nagar and Madhura Nagar areas, officials focused on hostels and commercial buildings where water pressure is consistently low. Several users were caught using agricultural motors to draw excessive water. At one hostel, a 2HP motor was found pumping water from a domestic connection, prompting strong warnings from the MD, who ordered disconnection of the water supply and blacklisting of the building.

Ashok Reddy instructed officials to continue daily checks during water supply hours for a week in SR Nagar and extend the drive citywide for 60 days. He warned that repeated violations would result in a Rs 5,000 fine and criminal cases. The drive also led to the identification of 134 illegal motors citywide in just two days—64 of which were seized, and penalties were issued to 84 users.

Consumers expressed relief as water pressure improved following the removal of motors. The Water Board urged residents not to install motors, stating that it affects equitable water distribution and increases tanker demand. For complaints or low-pressure issues, consumers are advised to contact the customer care number 155313 or local officials.
