Habitual burglar held, Rs 30 lakh recovered

Hyderabad police apprehended a notorious habitual house burglar and recovered stolen gold ornaments weighing around 206 grams along with cash of Rs 2.14 lakh, all valued at nearly Rs 30 lakh, in connection with a house burglary case under Begum Bazar police station limits.

The accused was identified as Amar Sonkambale, 20, a native of Maharashtra currently residing near Kishan Bagh in Hyderabad. Police said he worked as a waiter in function halls and allegedly turned to thefts to fund his lavish lifestyle, including alcohol consumption and partying.

Officials stated that he was already involved in three house burglary cases and one POCSO case in the city. The latest burglary took place during the early hours of May 6 at a residence in Hindi Nagar, Goshamahal, where gold ornaments weighing about 235 grams and cash worth nearly Rs 10 lakh were stolen. Based on CCTV footage and technical evidence, the Begum Bazar police team apprehended the accused on May 17 and recovered most of the stolen property.
