Dr Justice (Retd.) Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, President of the GST Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT), on Saturday said multiple lakh appeals are expected to be filed before June 30, 2026 — the notified deadline for approaching the newly operational tribunal.

He was speaking after inaugurating a half-day summit titled "GSTAT: Navigating the New Era of GST Litigation”, organised by the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) at Hyatt Place, Banjara Hills.

Justice Mishra urged the taxpayers and professionals not to wait until the last moment to file appeals, advising early filing to ensure smoother processing and avoid hardship. He described GSTAT as a specialised, fully digital appellate body that functions as the second appellate authority under the GST framework, reducing the burden on High Courts and speeding up dispute resolution.

The tribunal will handle disputes relating to tax demands, Input Tax Credit (ITC), refunds, penalties, and classification issues. Appeals will be filed electronically through the GST portal.

Over 250 professionals, including Chartered Accountants, Advocates, tax practitioners, business executives handling GST matters and finance professionals, attended the summit, which featured technical sessions and a live walkthrough of the GSTAT e-filing system.
