Mahabubnagar District Superintendent of Police D. Janaki, has introduced a new citizen-friendly initiative called “FIR at Home” to make crime reporting easier and more accessible. The service is aimed at providing convenience to victims who are unable to visit police stations, especially women, children, senior citizens, and physically challenged individuals.

Under this system, a person can contact the police with details of the incident, and officers will visit the complainant’s home or location to register the First Information Report on the spot. The service covers a wide range of offences including sexual offences, attempt to murder, injuries, theft, robbery, property crimes, POCSO cases, SC/ST atrocity cases, and child marriage incidents.

If the complainant is unable to write, police officers will record the statement in the person’s language, read it back for confirmation, and obtain consent and signature before registering the FIR. A copy of the FIR will be handed over immediately at the same location.

In cases involving women and children, the presence of a female police officer is made mandatory. If required, interpreters or teachers will also be arranged to assist in communication. The initiative also includes immediate protection of the crime scene and quick evidence collection to ensure proper investigation.

Officials stated that this service will significantly reduce delays in complaint registration, eliminate the need for victims to visit police stations, and encourage people to report crimes without fear. The initiative is expected to strengthen public trust and improve responsiveness in the policing system.
