DMRL gets new Director

Metro India News | Hyderabad : Dr Gopinath Kakkoprath has taken charge as Director of the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad, with effect from September 21, marking a new phase for the DRDO laboratory’s work on strategic materials. An Outstanding Scientist and former Associate Director at DMRL, Dr Gopinath joined DRDO in 1994. From 1994 to 2008, he contributed to indigenous materials and components for the Kaveri Engine Program.

Since joining DMRL in 2008, he has worked extensively on high-temperature materials and specialized naval steels for aerospace and naval applications. A  B.E. graduate of PSG College of Technology, he holds an M.Tech from IIT Kanpur and a Ph.D. from IISc, Bengaluru. He also coordinated the GTMAP program under AR&DB, strengthening academia-industry research. As Director, he will pursue advanced strategic materials and deeper industry-academia partnerships.
