Deficit rainfall worries farmers in district

Rain deficit conditions in Siddipet district have left farmers increasingly worried as prolonged dry weather continues to threaten standing crops. Although dark clouds have frequently gathered over the region in recent days, they have failed to bring the much-needed rainfall. The lack of even light showers has caused moisture levels in agricultural fields to decline sharply, leaving crops such as cotton, maize, and red gram under severe stress.

Encouraged by the light rains received at the beginning of the monsoon season, farmers had sown their fields on a large scale. However, with rainfall remaining well below expectations since then, the soil has dried out considerably, affecting crop growth across the district. The situation is particularly alarming in upland areas, where farmers have limited or no access to irrigation facilities.

Some farmers have resorted to transporting water to their fields through tankers despite the high cost, fearing the loss of their investment if the dry spell continues. Farmers say that although cloud cover has become a regular feature, the absence of rainfall has stalled crop development. They warn that if the district does not receive widespread and adequate rainfall within the next two to three days, crops could begin to wither beyond recovery, resulting in substantial financial losses. Farmers have urged the state government and agriculture department officials to closely monitor the prevailing conditions and provide timely guidance and support.
