Senior police officer CV Anand formally assumed charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana on Friday. The ceremony was conducted with traditional grandeur and in accordance with established protocols at the DGP’s office. Upon his arrival, CV Anand was given a traditional welcome by priests. Speaking to the media after taking charge, the newly appointed DGP expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the state government for reposing faith in him and appointing him to the top police post.
Highlighting the current status of the state police force, DGP CV Anand stated that Telangana Police has earned the recognition of being the No. 1 police force in the country and has built a strong brand image. He praised the force for its effective performance in maintaining law and order, controlling crime, and conducting investigations. DGP Anand emphasized the need to optimally utilize specialized units like Greyhounds and the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), which were originally created to counter Naxalism.
He also informed that a detailed report on existing vacancies in the police department will be submitted to the government shortly, along with proposals for reforms in recruitment and training. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is widely used in the private sector, will also be implemented in policing, he added. He revealed that a comprehensive restructuring of the Telangana Police will be undertaken soon. Mentioning that Telangana Police currently leads the country in the use of technology in crime investigation, he made it clear this edge will be maintained and further strengthened.
He also informed that a detailed report on existing vacancies in the police department will be submitted to the government shortly, along with proposals for reforms in recruitment and training. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which is widely used in the private sector, will also be implemented in policing, he added. Expressing concern over the gradual erosion of discipline and traditional courtesies among officers, DGP CV Anand said steps would be taken to remind officers of proper protocol and ensure better coordination within the department.
He cautioned that relying solely on CCTV footage for crime investigation was not enough and announced that old, proven methods of solving cases using physical evidence collected from the scene of offence would be revived. On the issue of cow protection, CV Anand made it clear that police alone would take action in cases of cow slaughter and warned private individuals against taking the law into their hands or coming onto the roads. The new DGP called upon all police personnel to remain vigilant at all times in maintaining peace and security in the state.
