Union Minister and Guntur MP Pemmasani Chandrasekhar on Monday distributed compensation to those who lost buildings and land for the Shankar Vilas Bridge. He said that the bridge, built in 1958, is in a dilapidated condition as the traffic problem in Guntur city has increased.

He recalled that the development works of Nandivelu bridge were sanctioned by the TDP led government in 2014. MP Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, MLAs Galla Madhavi, Naseer Ahmed and Burla Ramanjaneyulu were present at the event held at the Guntur Corporation office.

Pemmasani Chandrasekhar spoke to the media on the occasion. He said that tenders have been called for the development works of Shankar Vilas Bridge in just six months' time. He appealed to people to think of facts and not believe in misconceptions. He said that to build the Railway Under Bridge(RUB) first, it should be done from the beginning and in that case, the Railway Over Bridge(ROB) will stop, whereas to ROB can be built in the future according to the prevailing situation.

MLA Burla Ramanjaneyulu appealed to those who went to court to withdraw their cases and cooperate for the construction of the bridge. He said traders should cooperate when work is being done that will benefit lakhs of people. Compensation and TDR bonds are being given before the construction of the bridge, he assured. MLA Galla Madhavi said the demand for the bridge over Shankar Vilas has been there for many years. Finally, the construction of the above bridge will be realized, she said. She said that the aim is to complete the construction of the flyover within two years.
