Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced that 200 schools across 100 mandals in 100 constituencies will be upgraded in the next academic year into full-fledged Telangana Public Schools (TPS), offering education from Nursery to Class XII with world-class infrastructure. Chairing a comprehensive review of the Education Department at the ICCC, the Chief Minister assured that adequate budgetary allocation will be made in the forthcoming financial year to implement the ambitious plan.

The announcement came as the Telangana Education Commission, led by Chairman Akunuri Murali (Retd IAS), submitted its comprehensive policy document, Education Policy for Telangana 2026: Vision for Inclusive Excellence. The Commission has proposed a phased expansion to upgrade 2,000 schools statewide into integrated campuses equipped with laboratories, libraries, sports facilities and dedicated transport connectivity. The first phase will begin in 100 mandals during 2026–27.

No Compromise on Infrastructure

The Chief Minister directed officials not to compromise on infrastructure standards in the construction of integrated schools. He emphasized that government schools must match the facilities available in leading private institutions.

In core urban regions, priority will be given to strengthening existing government schools.

In other constituencies, one mandal in each will be taken up under a pilot project on the lines of the Arutla model, ensuring transport, modern classrooms and comprehensive amenities. He also ordered a feasibility study on deploying electric buses for student transportation in government schools.

Focus on Nutrition, Regulation & Accountability

The CM instructed officials to implement the breakfast scheme strictly in government schools and colleges, making milk a mandatory component and sourcing it from Vijaya Dairy. To enhance transparency and quality in the mid-day meal programme, AI-based monitoring systems will be introduced.

On regulation of private institutions, the Chief Minister made it clear that schools collecting fees beyond prescribed norms will face cancellation of recognition and recovery proceedings. Recommendations on fee regulation will be uploaded on the official website to invite public opinion before finalisation.

The policy document spans reforms from pre-primary to university education, including teacher recruitment, governance restructuring and the creation of a Telangana Education Standards Authority. Based on extensive consultations, institutional visits across all 33 districts, national and international study tours, and public hearings, the blueprint aims to transform Telangana into a model state for inclusive and high-quality public education.

Higher Education & Teacher Reforms

The policy also outlines sweeping reforms in higher and intermediate education. The Chief Minister stressed the immediate filling of vacant teaching posts in universities and government degree colleges to strengthen academic standards. The Commission has recommended restructuring teacher education programmes, enhancing qualifications, and introducing mandatory in-school training for B.Ed. students.

Reforms have also been proposed in university governance, affiliation processes and student assessment systems to ensure autonomy, accountability and improved learning outcomes. By aligning school transformation with higher education reforms, the government aims to build a seamless and high-quality public education ecosystem across Telangana.

With this comprehensive blueprint, the State Government seeks to restore public confidence in government institutions and position Telangana as a national model in inclusive and excellence-driven education.
