City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, on Sunday presented awards to 1,446 police personnel in recognition of their dedication and performance, marking the first-ever introduction of ‘Extra Mile’ Awards by the City Police. The awards were presented along with ‘Good Work Done’ rewards at a ceremony held at the Telangana State Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills.
Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner said policing is not just a profession but a social responsibility that demands accountability, innovation and humane conduct. He urged personnel to go beyond routine duties and focus on reassuring victims and strengthening public trust. He noted that true success lies not only in completing tasks but in the confidence citizens gain from police actions.
Explaining the concept behind the ‘Extra Mile’ Awards, Sajjanar said the initiative aims to recognise personnel who display exceptional commitment and perform beyond their assigned responsibilities. The recognition, he added, is intended to motivate the force and encourage higher standards of service.
Highlighting the importance of human values, the Commissioner said technological advancements cannot replace integrity, sincerity and compassion at the grassroots level. He appreciated the collective efforts of all ranks, from Home Guards to senior officers, in maintaining law and order in the city.
He also announced that the recognition process would continue, with awards to be presented every month at the zonal level to SHOs, SIs and Constables for notable performance.
The awards were finalised based on performance during the second, third and fourth quarters of the previous financial year. Of the total awardees, 271 personnel received ‘Extra Mile’ Awards and 1,175 received ‘Good Work Done’ rewards. Awardees included officers and staff across all ranks, including Public Prosecutors and ministerial staff.
The event was attended by Additional CP M. Srinivasulu, IPS; Joint CP N. Swetha, IPS; and DCPs S. Chaitanya Kumar, IPS, K. Shilpavalli, IPS, V. Arvind Babu, Lavanya Naik Jadav, and K. Venkata Lakshmi, along with other senior officers.
