Several celebrities reacted strongly after the Women’s Reservation Bill failed to pass in Lok Sabha
The failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha sparked sharp reactions from celebrities across politics, television and music. The proposed legislation aimed to reserve 33 per cent seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women, but failed to secure the required majority.
Several well-known personalities expressed disappointment and anger, calling it a setback for women’s representation and empowerment. Actress-politician Hema Malini termed it a sad day for women, while Kangana Ranaut called it painful. Television star Rupali Ganguly and singer-politician Maithili Thakur also voiced concern after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address on the issue.
Kangana calls it painful
Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut strongly reacted after the Bill failed to pass in Parliament. She described the outcome as deeply upsetting and a personal loss. Kangana said, “Nothing more sad and painful than this has ever happened today.” She also called the situation shameful and criticised the Opposition.
Hema Malini expresses disappointment
Actress and MP Hema Malini said the development was personally disappointing and called it a sad day for women. She had spoken in Parliament in support of the Bill before voting took place. Hema said, “A sad day for women who were looking forward to greater participation in national affairs.”
Maithili Thakur voices concern
Singer and Bihar MLA Maithili Thakur said she felt hurt after hearing the Prime Minister’s address on the failed Bill. She stressed the importance of women’s empowerment. Maithili said, “My heart ached to see that an important proposal related to women’s empowerment could not pass in Parliament this time.”
Rupali Ganguly gets emotional
Television actress Rupali Ganguly shared an emotional video after the Bill’s defeat and said women had waited too long for their rights. Rupali said, “We waited 30 years and you didn’t give us our rights. We are women. We don’t forget and neither do we forgive so easily.”
