Bring jobs to rural youth: Uttam Kumar

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday called for a sustained interface between educated unemployed youth and major industries, saying the disconnect between rural talent and organised employment opportunities needed to be addressed systematically.

Addressing representatives of companies, educational institutions and officials at a preparatory meeting for the Mega Job Mela in Kodad on September 19, Uttam said educated unemployment was particularly serious among rural youth. He said engineering, pharmacy, polytechnic, ITI and degree graduates from villages faced difficulties in identifying vacancies, approaching companies and travelling to Hyderabad for interviews. “If rural youth cannot easily reach major companies, we must bring the companies closer to rural youth,” he said.

Around 300 companies have been invited to the Kodad job mela, compared with over 200 that participated in the Huzurnagar event last year. Apollo Group, GMR, Ramky, Mahindra & Mahindra, cement companies and other industrial establishments are among those being approached.

The event aims to bring industry, educational institutions and job-seekers onto a common platform. Officials said around 1.5 lakh bulk messages had already been sent to prospective candidates. Candidates can register online through a QR code being circulated through publicity material. Uttam urged elected representatives and local officials to identify unemployed youth and ensure their participation.
