BJP’s twin strategy for Telangana

After performing well in the Lok Sabha elections but falling short in the Assembly polls, the BJP is aiming to expand its political base with the long-term goal of forming the government in Telangana

Metro India News | Hyderabad : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stepped up its political strategy in Telangana, with the central leadership focusing on resolving internal differences while preparing a large-scale "Operation Akarsh" to induct leaders from rival parties. According to party sources, BJP Telangana in-charge Abhay Patil has set a 30-day target to roll out the campaign as part of efforts to strengthen the organisation ahead of upcoming civic and Assembly elections.

After performing well in the Lok Sabha elections but falling short in the Assembly polls, the BJP is aiming to expand its political base with the long-term goal of forming the government in Telangana. Party sources said the national leadership has directed the state unit to complete the groundwork within a month and intensify organisational expansion.

Before launching Operation Akarsh, the BJP reportedly completed "Operation Sayodhya" to resolve internal differences among senior leaders. Abhay Patil held meetings with Etala Rajender, Bandi Sanjay and Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind to improve coordination, discuss organisational affairs and ensure greater participation in party programmes. Sources said the leadership wanted to settle internal issues before focusing on attracting leaders from other parties.

Party insiders said Patil has instructed leaders and workers to strengthen the organisation, with the leadership believing the political climate in Telangana offers an opportunity for expansion.

Under Operation Akarsh, the BJP is targeting leaders from the ruling Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), particularly former MLAs and influential district-level leaders. The party plans to focus on districts where its organisational presence remains weak. District leaders have reportedly been asked to identify Congress and BRS leaders who could be persuaded to join the BJP within the next month. According to party sources, former MPs, former MLAs, corporation and market committee chairpersons, as well as leaders denied tickets, overlooked for appointments or dissatisfied within their parties, have been identified as potential recruits.

The BJP is also focusing on the upcoming municipal corporation elections in Greater Hyderabad, Warangal and Khammam, viewing them as crucial ahead of the next Assembly polls. Party leaders believe a strong performance in urban local body elections will improve their Assembly prospects. BJP state president Ramchander Rao recently claimed that several prominent leaders from the Greater Hyderabad region were in touch with the party but were being prevented from joining by their respective parties. He reiterated that the BJP's doors remain open. Abhay Patil has made similar remarks, which political observers view as part of a coordinated expansion strategy.

The BJP also plans to increase visits by senior national leaders to Telangana. Party leaders hope that organisational unity, strategic inductions and sustained campaigning will help strengthen the BJP ahead of the upcoming civic and Assembly elections.
