Dr. Kota Neelima, TPCC Vice President and Congress Party In-charge for the Sanath Nagar Assembly Constituency, has strongly condemned the alleged ‘purification’ ritual performed by BJP leaders at the Ramlila Maidan in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, following Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge’s public meeting at the venue. She termed the act deeply humiliating and demanded registration of a case under the law prohibiting untouchability, and stringent action against those responsible.

Dr. Neelima was speaking at a Satyagraha organised in solidarity with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge at Jabbar Complex in Bansilalpet under the leadership of Secunderabad DCC President Deepak John. She said that treating a place as impure merely because a Dalit leader had addressed a public gathering there was not only an insult to Mr. Kharge but also a grave affront to the dignity and self-respect of millions of Dalits across the country.

Dr. Kota Neelima recalled that the Constitution of India guarantees equal rights and dignity to every citizen and explicitly prohibits untouchability and stated that attempts to perpetuate caste-based discrimination were also contrary to the broader spirit of Hindu philosophy and Indian culture.  She asserted that the Congress Party would firmly resist any attempt to undermine the dignity and self-respect of Dalits and would continue its struggle for social justice, equality and constitutional values.
