AP Fire Services gets 58 fire fighting vehicles

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday launched 58 modern fire fighting vehicles, procured at a cost of Rs 40 crore, as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s emergency response and fire safety infrastructure. The Chief Minister flagged off the new fleet at a programme attended by Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, Fire Services Director General Venkata Ramana and senior officials.

The newly inducted fleet includes 25 advanced fire fighting vehicles, 20 water bowsers and 13 Quick Response Multipurpose Firefighting vehicles. The 25 advanced firefighting vehicles have been specifically added to improve the department’s capacity to respond to emergencies in rural and forest areas, where difficult terrain and limited access can delay conventional firefighting operations.

The 20 water bowsers are intended to provide uninterrupted water supply during major fire incidents, particularly where prolonged fire fighting operations require large quantities of water and regular replenishment. The department has also acquired 13 Quick Response Multipurpose Fire fighting vehicles to enable personnel to reach incidents rapidly in narrow, congested and densely populated areas where larger fire engines may face access constraints.

Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the technical specifications and operational capabilities of the newly procured vehicles before he formally flagged them off. The latest procurement is part of a broader effort by the coalition government to modernise the State Fire Services Department and improve its preparedness for emergencies. In the first phase of the modernisation programme, the government had already made 65 fire fighting vehicles available at a cost of Rs 33 crore.

With the latest additions, the department is expected to have greater mobility and firefighting capacity across urban, rural, forest and other vulnerable areas. The government has been focusing on strengthening emergency response infrastructure in view of the growing risks posed by urbanisation, industrial activity, forest fires and other disasters.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu stressed the importance of ensuring that the new equipment is effectively deployed and maintained so that the Fire Services Department can respond swiftly to emergencies and minimise loss of life and property.
