In a counterattack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who recently sought the assistance of Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy in securing appointments with Union ministers and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao on Sunday wrote an open letter seeking an appointment with Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.

Rao said the BJP wanted to submit a memorandum to Rahul Gandhi highlighting the alleged failure of the Congress government in Telangana to fulfil promises and guarantees made during the 2023 Assembly elections.

In his letter, Rao said the people of Telangana had voted for the Congress based on assurances given by Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. However, he alleged that several key promises made to women, farmers, students, youth, senior citizens and other sections remained unfulfilled.

He claimed that women were yet to receive the promised Rs 2,500 monthly assistance, while farmers continued to await Rs 15,000 per acre under the Rythu Bharosa scheme. Tenant farmers, agricultural labourers and beneficiaries of Indiramma housing schemes had also been left disappointed, he alleged. Rao further said students were still waiting for assistance under the Vidya Bharosa scheme and that issues relating to fee reimbursement remained unresolved. He also alleged that unemployed youth had not received the promised Rs 4,000 monthly unemployment allowance, while senior citizens were yet to get the enhanced Rs 4,000 pension.

The BJP leader urged Revanth Reddy to facilitate an early meeting with Rahul Gandhi so that the concerns of farmers, women, youth, students, workers, artisans and other sections could be conveyed directly to the Congress leadership.

Rao said failure to grant such an appointment would reinforce perceptions that the Congress had betrayed the people of Telangana.
