BIACH&RI director leads delegation to Japan

Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI) added another international milestone to its record with Medical Director Dr. T. Subramanyeswara Rao leading a 25-member Indian delegation at the 22nd ISDE World Congress for Esophageal Diseases in Kyoto, Japan, from September 16 to 18, 2026.

Held at the Kyoto International Conference Center, the global meeting brought together specialists involved in esophageal surgery, gastroenterology, oncology, endoscopy and research. The International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus’ annual congress provided a multidisciplinary forum for sharing research, clinical experience and emerging approaches in the diagnosis and treatment of esophageal diseases.

Dr. Rao was part of the scientific programme, where he presented his research and clinical experience and shared BIACH&RI’s expertise in managing esophageal diseases and cancer.

The 25-member Indian delegation used the congress as a platform to learn about developments in disease diagnosis, treatment, advanced medical technology and multidisciplinary patient care. The scientific programme covered subjects including esophageal cancer, other esophageal disorders, multimodality treatment, robotic surgery, advanced endoscopic procedures, artificial intelligence and emerging treatment modalities.

The congress recorded 543 accepted abstracts, highlighting the breadth of research presented during the meeting. The accepted work was published as a supplement of Diseases of the Esophagus.

Dr. Rao said participation in international medical conferences contributes to continuous learning and helps strengthen evidence-based approaches to patient care. He also highlighted the importance of sharing Indian clinical experience while gaining insights into evolving practices worldwide.
