Jayashankar Bhupalpally District Transport Officer(DTO) Maddoju Venkanna (48) died in a tragic road accident while performing his official duties near the Transport Department office at Chelpur on Monday morning.
According to officials, Venkanna was conducting vehicle inspections around 9.30 am when he stopped a harvester allegedly being operated in violation of regulations. While arrangements were being made to shift the seized vehicle to the office, a speeding lorry travelling on the same route reportedly hit him with great force. Venkanna sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Police and district officials rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident. Superintendent of Police Sankeerth visited the hospital and reviewed the circumstances of the incident.
The lorry driver was taken into custody for questioning. District Collector Rahul Sharma also visited the hospital and expressed condolences. A native of Maripeda in Mahabubabad district, Venkanna had joined the Transport Department as an Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector and was transferred from Jagtial to Bhupalpally just 20 days ago. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Officials and staff paid floral tributes to him at the Collectorate.
