A major burglary was reported from Jalal Baba Nagar in Attapur during the Ramzan festivities, where unidentified burglars decamped with cash and valuables from a trader’s residence.

According to police, the incident took place when the house owner, Mohd Firoz, had locked his home and gone to a relative’s place to celebrate Ramzan. Taking advantage of his absence, the burglars broke open the locks and gained entry into the house.

The accused reportedly ransacked the bedroom and broke open an almirah, making away with around Rs 20 lakh in cash, along with gold jewellery and silver articles. The theft is believed to have been carried out within a short span of time, indicating prior planning.

On returning home on Sunday evening, Firoz found the house burgled and immediately alerted the police by dialing 100.

Police suspect that the offenders may be known to the victim and had prior information about his movements. The Attapur police rushed to the spot, and teams including a dog squad and clues team were deployed for evidence collection.

CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and special teams have been formed to trace the accused.
