Bollywood actress Sharvari opens up about the love and support her Alpha co-star Alia Bhatt is showering on her upcoming film Main Vaapas Aaunga
Murtuza Iqbal
Sharvari will next be seen in Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga. The movie also stars Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina, and Naseeruddin Shah. The Free Press Journal interacted with the actress and spoke to her about the film, her song Maskara going viral, and getting support from Alia Bhatt. Excerpts:
How was it to enter the romantic world of Imtiaz Ali?
Very Kiss Miss Yara! (laughs) Honestly, I always wanted to do a love story, and I hadn’t actually explored this genre before. So, it was exciting to actually be a part of a film, which of course comes from Imtiaz sir’s lens, a story that he has written. Because I always, even as an audience, felt that the way he writes women in his love stories, and in his films especially, is very unique to him, and very unique to even viewers who watch these characters.
I think that, as a girl growing up watching these films, it always made me feel like I had something that I connected to. With every girl that he wrote, whether it was their vulnerable side or their chirpy, talkative side. But I think that he kind of explored those emotions so well in women, and I thought that they were so accurately and most authentically represented. So I guess I was always hungry and greedy to kind of be a part of a film like that. So, it was very exciting. I was nervous, I was excited.
After Taras, Maskara has now become a chartbuster, and it is trending on Instagram reels. How do you feel that in two years, two songs of yours have gone viral?
It feels amazing. I didn’t know the power of music. I obviously first-hand got to know that with Taras, it was my first solo song. What I find really exciting about this song (Maskara) in particular is that it’s really more an emotion, less of a dance. It’s almost like your body is moving because it just wants to move. It’s not like very specific, particular dance steps. It’s all about an emotion. I really find that exciting because when people recreate something like that, which is not so to speak that hook step, but it just happens to be, which honestly just got picked up on set.
We usually hear that two actresses can’t be friends. But Alia Bhatt made a reel on your song Maskara, and she has been supporting you and showering love on the film. So, what do you have to say about that?
It is the biggest myth that actresses
can’t be friends. Obviously, what she has done is so kind, genuine, and loving, which really represents her the most. There’s friendship, and she is a big cheerleader for all of us, who are a part of this film. She has literally worked with all of us. It makes the whole thing more special for us because in this whole world, you always want people to cheer for you, and she is one big cheerleader.
Main Vaapas Aaunga is slated to release on June 12, 2026.
