Airtel picks Hyderabad as second HQ

Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal on Tuesday announced that Hyderabad would serve as the second headquarters for Airtel, marking a major boost to Telangana's growing position as a digital and technology hub. Mittal also assured the State Government that Airtel would expand its data center capacity and strengthen fibre connectivity across Telangana.

Mittal made the announcement during a meeting with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the MCRHRD Bodhi Pavilion in Hyderabad. The Chief Minister welcomed Airtel's expansion plans and proposed the establishment of a large, comprehensive Data Center and AI Infrastructure Campus in Telangana to accelerate the State's digital transformation.

Revanth Reddy urged Bharti Enterprises to expand its digital, cloud, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence operations in Hyderabad and suggested the early launch of the Chandanvelli data center project. He also requested Mittal to nominate a senior company executive to coordinate with the Telangana Government on future investment opportunities and facilitate speedy resolution of project related issues.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the State Government's education and skill development reforms, including the establishment of Young India Skill University, the transformation of Industrial Training Institutes into Advanced Technology Centres, and efforts to strengthen polytechnic education to build a future ready workforce. Responding positively, Sunil Bharti Mittal announced that the Bharti Foundation would provide scholarships to students studying in government schools.
