97-year-old wing walker breaks own world record

London: A 97-year-old British woman has broken her own Guinness World Record for the oldest female wing walker, a year after suffering a stroke. Cheltenham resident Betty Bromage completed the feat at RFC Rendcomb Airfield in Cirencester on Aug 4, aged 97 years and 127 days. She has gone wing walking six times since turning 87. Bromage first set the record in 2022, aged 93.

“I’d just get bored of life otherwise. I can’t drive, I can’t see very well and I get a bit frustrated. So, I want to do the things I can do,” Bromage told the BBC. Bromage suffered a stroke in August 2025 that continues to affect her speech. Her latest wing walk raised money for the stroke unit at Cheltenham General Hospital, where she received treatment.
