Our government is committed to make Telangana state number one in cyber safety in the country, said Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy here on Tuesday.

Speaking at a Cyber Security Conclave ‘SHIELD 2025,’ organized by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), Cyberabad Police, and the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) at HICC, CM Revanth said state government is providing required assistance and resources to work with cyber experts and IT companies to create an ecosystem for the development of cyber security solutions.

Telangana is one among a few states which established a fully functioning Cyber Security Bureau and a dedicated cybercrime helpline to protect citizens from cyber frauds and crimes, CM said.

CM said nowadays cybercrimes can happen anytime and from anywhere posing challenges to police officials to identify the offenders, determining where they carried out the offence. Amid such challenges, the police have the responsibility of preventing crime. The whole country should work as a single unit to combat cybercrime, and coordination is very much needed among all the states police departments, CM said.

CM said cyber criminals looted Rs 22,812 Crore in the country last year. Cybercrime posed a big threat to the country's economy as well as the citizens. CM said Telangana should be developed as a secure business hub.

CM appealed to all to share 1930 cyber helpline number which works round the clock.

He commended TGCSB’s proactive efforts in cybercrime prevention, particularly its role in the development of the centralized cybercrime portal, which is now used by 27 states, and its efforts in victim restitution, ensuring Rs 183 crores were refunded to 18,000 victims in 2024 alone.

He expressed confidence that Telangana would serve as a role model for the nation in controlling cybercrime in coming days. Fake news is another big threat these days, misinformation on social media is creating chaos in the society, said CM.

Telangana is set to launch a new digital security policy

Speaking at the conclave, Telangana IT Minister D Sridhar Babu said government is set to launch a new digital security policy in line with India’s personal data protection policy.

He stressed India must now focus on manufacturing cyber security technologies. “We get about Rs 7 billion worth of cyber security stack and yet the Indian market remains in single digits. It is time now to move from the traditional approach. We must not be dependent on our external partners for these technologies,” IT Minister said.

He emphasized the importance of securing critical infrastructure, fostering cyber security startups, and integrating cyber security into government initiatives and policies. Additionally, he announced that discussions are underway to establish the Telangana Cyber Defence Center (TGCDC), a dedicated initiative to proactively defend police departments and government agencies against cyber threats. This center will serve as a centralized hub for monitoring, mitigating, and responding to cyber risks, ensuring enhanced security across government institutions.
