Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji Maharaj, the Peethadheeshwar of Jyotirmath, awarded mementos and certificates to the winners of the ‘Gau Prahari’ competition at a function held at Shri Vidya Math on Thursday evening. The competition was organized by Shri Gurukulam Nyas in various schools of Varanasi district with the aim of creating public awareness for the protection of cows, granting ‘Rashtra Mata’ and ‘Rajya Mata’ status to Mother Cow and stopping cow slaughter in India.

Shankaracharya Ji Maharaj said that in Sanatan Dharma, the cow is not merely viewed as an animal but is revered as the very foundation of civilization. The glory of Gau Mata is not limited to religious texts alone; her protection is directly linked to the welfare of entire humanity and creation, he stated. Shankaracharya Ji expressed regret that  India is rapidly moving towards becoming the world’s largest exporter of beef.He criticized the modern education system for distancing the younger generation from their dharma and culture, teaching them to view the cow only as a useful domestic animal for economic benefits.

Expressing hope, Shankaracharya Ji said that the competition organized by the institution would help develop a proper understanding of Sanatan Dharma and Indian culture among students.  Shri Gurukulam President Abhay Shankar Tiwari said that through this competition, they are supporting the Gau Pratistha Andolan (Cow Honor Movement) led by Paramadheeshwar Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji Maharaj. The information regarding the event was provided by Shankaracharya Ji’s Media In-charge, Sanjay Pandey.
