In a significant recognition of frontline efforts against the drug menace, Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh of Ramanathapuram District, has been selected for the prestigious Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Police Medal for ‘Outstanding Work in Eradicating Drug Production and Illicit Trafficking’. The announcement was made on Friday on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, coinciding with Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s anti-drug awareness initiatives, including a major ‘Start Run, Stop Drugs’ marathon at Chennai’s Marina Beach.

The medal will be formally presented by the Chief Minister during the Independence Day celebrations. G. Chandeesh, a 2018-batch IPS officer, has earned acclaim for his campaigns against narcotics in Ramanathapuram, a district known for its coastal vulnerabilities to smuggling routes. Under his leadership as Superintendent of Police, the district police have intensified coastal patrolling, conducted large-scale raids on drug networks, and strengthened community awareness programs, resulting in significant seizures and the dismantling of several trafficking modules.
