Rahul Gandhi should face debate, not run away: Ramchander Rao

Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Tuesday accused Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of practising “politics of convenience” and alleged that he was more interested in creating confusion than addressing students’ concerns.

Addressing a press conference here at the BJP state office, Rao questioned Gandhi’s silence over alleged police action against protesting students in Jharkhand, while accusing Congress of creating a “fake narrative” when similar incidents occur in NDA-ruled states. "For the last 15 days, the entire country has been watching how Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly lied, spread absolute confusion and disrupted the greatest temple of democracy (Parliament). Rahul Gandhi’s objective is neither dialogue nor solution, but merely to spread chaos", he remarked.

Rao alleged that most participants in the Congress-led protest in Delhi over the NEET issue were outsiders and claimed that slogans unrelated to students’ demands were raised. He contrasted the Delhi protest with the ongoing student agitation in Jharkhand, which he described as peaceful and disciplined.

The BJP leader condemned the alleged police action against Jharkhand students and demanded that the Congress and JMM governments immediately address their grievances.

Rao also accused Rahul Gandhi of repeatedly changing his demands in Parliament, alleging that he first sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, later demanded a discussion on NEET and subsequently sought a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the Jantar Mantar incident. “Rahul Gandhi should not fear the debate or run away from the battlefield in Parliament. Let him face the facts”, Rao remarked.

Further, he alleged that Gandhi was disrupting Parliament because he feared that a detailed debate would expose the Congress leader’s “lies and deceitful tactics”. “Rahul Gandhi — don’t run, don’t hide. Face the debate and face the facts”, Rao added.
