Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has reiterated that ensuring uninterrupted and quality power supply to the public without inconvenience remains the government’s top priority, even as electricity demand rises sharply due to intense summer conditions.
Chairing a high level review meeting at Praja Bhavan with senior officials of the Energy Department, the Deputy CM assessed the current power supply situation in the state. Officials briefed him that soaring temperatures have significantly increased the usage of air conditioners, coolers, and other appliances across households and commercial establishments. Additionally, agricultural demand has further added pressure on the power grid.
Despite the nationwide strain on electricity availability, the Deputy CM directed officials to procure additional power through power exchanges to meet the state’s growing needs. He emphasized that there should be zero disruption in supply to critical sectors such as hospitals, drinking water schemes, and other essential services.
He instructed that all available power generation units in the state be operated at full capacity and called for efficient management of hydropower resources. Stressing preparedness, he advised power utilities to work in close coordination and develop advance plans to handle further increases in demand as temperatures are expected to rise.
Officials informed that the state’s power system remains stable and that adequate arrangements have been made to tackle emerging challenges. The Deputy CM directed continuous monitoring of the situation and urged field level staff to remain vigilant to ensure reliable and quality power supply to all consumers.
Senior officials including Special Chief Secretary (Energy) Navin Mittal, TRANSCO CMD Krishna Bhaskar, GENCO CMD Harish, and SPDCL CMD Jitesh V. Patil attended the meeting.
