Ghatekesar Inspector P. Kiran has urged people travelling to their native places during the Dasara holidays to take precautionary measures to protect their homes from thefts and other security risks. The inspector advised residents not to leave gold, silver, cash or other valuables at home and instead keep them in bank lockers. He recommended installing CCTV cameras, security alarms and central locking systems. Residents were also advised to conceal door locks behind curtains and avoid leaving spare locks outside their homes.

He advised that to make houses appear occupied, people can leave a light switched on in one room and place footwear near the entrance. Newspaper and milk delivery services should be suspended during their absence, he said. Inspector Kiran also cautioned residents against sharing travel plans on social media and advised them to inform trusted neighbors and the local police station before leaving. Travelers were warned against accepting food from unknown persons on buses and trains. In case of suspicious activity, residents can contact emergency helplines 100 or 112, the Rachakonda Police Control Room at 87126 62666, or the police WhatsApp number 87126 62111.
