Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday announced the completion of a critical structural component of Polavaram project, the 1,372-metre-long diaphragm wall. Calling it a major milestone, the Chief Minister said the development marks steady progress in the government’s mission to complete the state’s lifeline project.
Taking to social media platform X, Naidu lauded the Irrigation Department for executing the complex engineering work within a short timeframe. He commended engineers and officials for their technical efficiency and dedication in completing what is considered one of the most crucial elements in the project’s construction.
The Chief Minister also extended his appreciation to central agencies and representatives of the Polavaram Project Authority for their continued support and coordination. He noted that the diaphragm wall had to be reconstructed at an additional cost of nearly Rs. 1,000 crore after it was damaged due to negligence during the previous regime, underscoring the financial and technical challenges faced by the current government.
With the diaphragm wall now in place, Naidu said construction of the main Earth-Cum-Rock-Fill (ECRF) dam structure will gather pace in the coming months. The diaphragm wall plays a vital role in preventing seepage and ensuring the structural stability of the dam, making its completion a key prerequisite for further progress.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister stated that all remaining works are being fast-tracked with a clear timeline. He reiterated that the Polavaram project will be completed and dedicated to the nation before the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu, as previously announced.
