Punjab National Bank expects its net profit to cross ₹20,000 crore in FY27, driven by steady earnings, higher lending and business expansion, PTI reported on Sunday.

MD & CEO Ashok Chandra said the bank has maintained quarterly net profits of over ₹5,000 crore since the second quarter of FY26 and has sustained the trend in the April-June quarter of FY27.  PNB had reported a net profit of ₹16,904 crore in FY26. The bank expects loan growth of 12-13% and deposit growth of 9-10% during the current financial year.

Chandra said retail, agriculture, MSME and self-help groups would remain key focus areas for asset creation, supported by large-scale customer outreach programmes.  He also said PNB plans to enter the acquisition finance segment from the third quarter after receiving board approval, following the RBI’s revised guidelines.

Initially, the bank will focus on financing domestic acquisitions to diversify its loan portfolio. The RBI recently allowed banks to finance up to 75% of acquisition deal value, subject to conditions including corporate guarantees, a post-acquisition debt-to-equity ratio of no more than 3:1, and minimum financial eligibility requirements for borrowers.
