As many as 377 newly recruited doctors have joined duty as Medical Officers in Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and as Civil Assistant Surgeons in teaching hospitals across Andhra Pradesh. Out of the 377 doctors, 232 (61.53%) are women, which is a significant highlight. According to a statement issued by Health and Family Welfare Minister S. Satyakumar Yadav on Monday, the AP Medical Services Recruitment Board had issued a notification for filling 630 Medical Officer posts on a permanent basis.

As many as 4,984 candidates applied for these posts. After scrutiny as per rules, online counseling was conducted recently for 611 posts (excluding sports quota). Of these, 482 candidates exercised their options. Eventually, 377 doctors reported for duty — 282 joined as Medical Officers in PHCs and 95 as Civil Assistant Surgeons in teaching hospitals. The highest number of doctors joined in Krishna, Nandyal, Palnadu, and Srikakulam districts, with 16 Medical Officers each in PHCs.

During online counseling, 611 posts were offered, but only 482 candidates exercised options. As many as 129 candidates did not exercise their options. Additionally, 105 candidates who were allotted posts have not yet joined duty.

This has resulted in 234 vacant posts. The Director of Public Health has requested the Recruitment Board to send the next merit list from the already finalized selection list as per the previous notification. A fresh online counseling will be conducted following the rule of reservation and other norms to fill these remaining posts.
