A mock disaster management drill was conducted on Tuesday at the Medchal–Malkajgiri District Collectorate under the aegis of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), aimed at strengthening preparedness for industrial accidents such as chemical leaks, explosions, and bomb blasts.
NDRF official Gautam Kumar demonstrated emergency response protocols, including rescue operations, management of air pollution caused by chemical releases, and restoration of normalcy in affected areas. He explained measures to simulate real-time emergency conditions and highlighted the importance of quick assessment based on the concentration of hazardous substances in the air.
The drill also focused on providing immediate medical assistance to victims, with detailed demonstrations on emergency treatment and evacuation procedures. Officials stressed that effective coordination among departments is crucial during such incidents.
NDRF personnel showcased the use of protective gear, including specialized suits, masks, gloves, and safety kits, to ensure the safety of both responders and victims. They also demonstrated precautionary measures and self-protection techniques to be followed during chemical accidents, with specific reference to hazards involving chlorine.The exercise was conducted in coordination with the fire services, police, factories department, and medical teams, highlighting a multi-agency response approach.
District Additional Collector Faizan Ahmed, along with Additional DCPs Venkat Reddy and Hanumantha Rao, DRO Chandravathi, and other officials from central and state government departments, participated in the drill.
